10 Tips for an Off Tap Australia Day!

Has the responsibility of planning the Australia Day party fallen on you this year? With more than a decade of experience in planning the ultimate Australia Day celebration, we have you covered with these ten helpful tips.

1. The date

The first consideration is the day on which you will host the celebrations. Do you celebrate on 26 January with the traditionalists or 24 January with the countdown? We consider Australia Day to be synonymous with the Hottest 100. That means Sunday, 24 January is the date!

2. The venue

Australia Day should ideally be spent where you can have a swim after hitting a few backyard boundaries. You will need to determine which one of your amenable amigos has a swimming pool and enough lawn for the cricket pitch? That will be your venue.

3. The preparation

There is plenty to organise around the house before and after the festivities. The lawn will need to be mowed, the floors vacuumed, the house tidied and the pool cleaned. You may find a few of your most faithful friends to volunteer an hour or two with their gardening gloves to help you get the place organised.

4. The food

Australia Day should be catered with a barbecue and salads, staggered throughout the afternoon. Begin the day with buffalo chicken wings, pork snags, prawn and pineapple skewers, Melitzanosalata, and a farro salad. Serve lunch in the afternoon with grilled Portabellos, halloumi, and veggie skewers, lamb cutlets, pulled-pork sliders, and green salads. In the evening, serve the homemade sausage rolls with tomato relish.

5. The beverages

Australia Day is celebrated in the heat of summer, which means thirsty guests! Why not spoil your guests with draught beer? The easiest way to cater the drinks is with an Off Tap Portable Bar, which can dispense over two hundred drinks. The only decision that you will need to make is whether to be pouring a pale ale, lager, cider, gin spritz, or soda. Whatever you decide, your guests will surely be impressed with an icy cold schooner to accompany the backyard cricket!

6. The draught beer

The choice of beer is perhaps the most important decision when organising the Australia Day party! With over a hundred beers to choose from our extensive range of kegs, you may want to put this to a vote between your closest mates.

7. The games

The quintessential Australia Day activities are perhaps what makes this such a great celebration. The backyard can be converted into a sports arena with a slip’n’slide, cricket pitch, croquet, bocce, thong toss, and egg’n’spoon race. Your guests will be sure to enjoy themselves with a bit of competitive entertainment.

8. The music

The Triple J Hottest 100 has accompanied Australia Day celebrations for over three decades. It is acclaimed as the world’s greatest music democracy and delivers an evocative journey through the tunes that defined the year. We like to pass the hat around and test the intuition of your mates by seeing who can predict the five hottest songs!

9. The attire

This is the occasion where boardshorts, singlets, pluggers, and a wide-brimmed hat are all actively encouraged – especially if they are green and gold or boast an Aussie flag. This is a day to keep it casual. And don’t forget to Slip, Slop, Slap!

10. The décor

The ambiance of the party is strongly influenced by the décor. Head down to your local Coles or Crazy Clarks to collect the table cloth, paper plates, cups, and streamers in green and gold or with an Aussie flag.
